Sport

Our Physical Education programme plays a major part in ensuring that our pupils are fit and healthy. This in turn makes for happy, well-balanced young people who understand the importance of exercise and who enjoy being part of a team. Children are taught to develop a positive attitude towards sport, learning fair play and how to deal with both success and failure. Our rich and varied curriculum challenges our pupils at every level and if they so choose they can take part in the annual ski trip or even learn stable management and horse riding in the Upper School.

Our pupils are taught by specialist teachers and they are encouraged to take part in team games against other schools and in ISA tournaments. We currently have a Football Team, a Cross Country Running Team and a Netball Team. In the Summer Term our Swimming, Cricket and Athletics teams will be selected. Our Sports Day will take place at the Barn Elms sports facility and will be a chance for all of our pupils to compete against one another.

Swimming is a compulsory subject for all of our pupils from Reception to Year 6 and takes place once each week throughout the year. Pupils are taught in small groups by qualified instructors. We currently use the facilities at Porchester Pools and Imperial College.

Ballet is an optional extra for all of our pupils and it takes place during the school day.  Children are taught in groups by a teacher from Chelsea Ballet School and the lessons are accompanied by a professional pianist.

At Hyde Park School we cover a wide range of sports in our curriculum to ensure there really is something for all, and that pupils are well prepared for senior school sports.

There are opportunities for all students to compete on a regular basis in competitions with other local schools. We are also part of ISA (Independent Schools Association) who provide National competitions in a range of sports for individuals performing at a very competitive level. Recently, we have had performances at national standard in the following sports: Athletics, Judo and Gymnastics.

We seek to provide opportunities for all pupils to enjoy sports with after school clubs ranging from Climbing and Yoga to Karate to Fencing and we also have a very popular fitness club. Healthy living is very much a part of school life and our pupils are encouraged to be fit and healthy.

Upper School pupils have the opportunity to attend our annual ski-trip. This caters for pupils who have never skied before, all the way to those who perform both at a high level with ESF ski-school and Nationally.

Our pupils have two hours of PE each week and swimming is part of the curriculum, with pupils from Reception to Form 2 swimming once a week in the Summer Term and Forms 3 to 6 swimming weekly all year round at the Imperial College pool.

Sport is taken very seriously at Hyde Park School and we are lucky to have acres and acres of open parkland just seven minutes from our door, a local riding school and a tennis club within easy reach.

When you visit the school you will be able to talk to the children about all of the exciting things we do.
